Current Revision>> PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-103 1.90 02/06/05. Can anybody try to write software to hack the drive with? I noticed while hex. Hi,i need my dvd play and burner drivers reinstalled,as the plug in for burner driver got rubbed off accidently.it a slot in the tower sort pioneer dvd-rw dvr-112d the play & burn drive unit, the ot.

Got this from the OWC web site just now. There is no native support, yet, for Dual Layer DVD Burners. However, they will work in OS X with the aid of Toast. Mac OS X 10.3 (all versions) - DVD player works perfectly Mac OS X previous to OS X 10.3 - DVD player not supported Mac OS 9 or earlier - DVD player not supported Patching this drive for support under Mac OS X 10.3 is possible using Christian Moller's PatchBurn 3 Software, located here. You will have to dig around for the PatchBurn 3 though Hope this helps P. I think you are wong on the OS 9 support for burning DVD's as i was just given a Power Mac G4 733mhz that came with a Pioneer DVR-RW. The system has bee sitting at friend house that was doing video editing but he was having problems with figuring out the software(he was more a PC guy) the system is setup for doing video editing but for the DVD which seem to have now not want to read any DVD's or CD's.

I changed out the Rom Drive with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 it works for all but burning. It will read all the CD and DVD's but will not burn.

The error seem to say it can not run the hardware so I was thinking that it could be a diver issue. It show the model# in the profiler but could no ID what type drive it was till i updated from OS 9.1.1 to OS 9.2.2 I worked at Apple as Re-work tech on the line for near 2 years and this model of the G4 came out just after I left. The got the system from company in NY called B&H Video and it is deck out for running Final cut and doing full Video production. If the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 will not work can anyone think of what drive will? Planing on using the system for more video making soon and would like to get all running as best I can.

System info Power Mac G4 733mhz Digital audio 256meg of ram PC 133 duel video cards One 32meg Nvidia card and one 32meg Matrox card duel keyboards one is set up to run the cut and wipes and video editing was running OS 9.1 not updated to OS 9.2.2 the system has Final cut and other third party video software and was sold to me from From B&H video out of NY 5 years or so back. Over 3 years ago, the information was taken from the OWC website. If you believe that the information is incorrect, feel free to tell them. Personally I would not be trying to do any serious video editing on that system, slow processor, minimal RAM, old video cards with miniscule amounts of RAM and all coupled with an OS that is seriously old. That machine will support OS X, although it is doubtful that your Final Cut will run on it unless it is the Universal Binary version. I am still using a G4 (AGP Graphics) that has the Pioneer DVR-116 installed and it functions correctly in all modes. OS X 10.4.11 is the installed OS.

Check the macsales.com website for information on a DVD that will work with System 9. The DVR-116D offers limited support, no DVD Player, but with the help of third party Disk Burning software like TOAST, you should not have a problem P. I plan on greatly to upgrades to the ram and Video cards. The OS may stay the same but I had friend that know Macs well and he said this is stander TV station editing that will still work with current broadcast(I not sure that is all true but he would know more on this model) I found that the Pioneer Drive have will work but i will need to use Patchburn to get it to burn. BTW this drive played DVD's and loaded CD and DVD at boot(holding the C key down to boot the daig cd) The system is old but never count the mhz on PPC system it the Mips that count and this system seem to burn with them.

I not sying I could turn out a major production but I can edit then have it do a final render on a different system. 2 better cards more hard drive space and an upgrade in the CPU also will help. I will say you got the info from good source but even on the Apple Data base we found thing to be wrong about many system and some of the old early PPC system were updated to be used all over the plant wile i worked there. So they thought would not go pasted 2K but they worked fine as well. I was not trying to put you down on what you know I just want to state that many system did come with DVR burners that worked under OS 9. NOw as for brands of Burners That I need to find out.

Wish I still knew some at Apple these days. This model came out after I left it was in testing when i left alone with the duel and the cube(that I did get to play with in black box) BTW is any one ever wonder what ever happen to the G3 and G4 case and who is using it now what ch this. You'll laugh hard I know I did. Thanks for the info and sorry i wasn't trying to say you were wrong.

Start by trashing your itunes application( you do have your itunes music backed up on DVDs right?) reinstall itunes, and do a permissions DISK repair from disk utility with your ORIGINAL INSTALL DISC. Install the latest version of patch burn. You may also need to upgrade to at least 10.3.9 and run a software update if you Mac does not automatically do it for you! It pays to use the last two updates of MacOSX as you upgrade your hardware. Just curious, why are you using such an old version of OSX when the latest versions support dual layer burning? My 1ghz quicksilver mac has a DVR-108 running tiger and it burns ANYTHING I stick into the DVD tray! A good piece of burning software for OS 9 would be Toast.

It does seem a little strange that a device that was working in 9 should stop working in X. Even if the drive did not function as a burner, it 'should' function as a regular CD drive. Earlier drives, CD or DVD, that were not supported by iLife would still function in the Finder as Readers. You have not mentioned that you have changed or moved the drive since upgrading to OS X so why it should just stop working is annoying. Go back to OS 9 and see if a NEW version of Toast will work for you. From your description, it would appear that the drive was having issues before the change to OS X.

It could be that the drive actually died!

Business Solutions Division has announced its new DVR-A05 DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW combination drive. It's the successor to Pioneer's DVR-A04, the basis for Apple's SuperDrive. The SuperDrive is a combination CD-RW/DVD-R drive that can read and write CDs as well as DVDs that can be played in consumer DVD players. Pioneer manufactures the units for Apple in an OEM original equipment manufacturer deal. Pioneer claims the fifth generation drive doubles writing performance across the board with 4X DVD-R, 2X DVD-RW, 16X CD-R and 8X CD-RW capabilities. The new 4X DVD-R recording speed purportedly reduces writing time from one hour to just 15 minutes to record a high-speed 4.7 GB DVD-R disc. The drive is due next month at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$299.

'The new DVR-A05 offers a substantial recording speed increase for DVD-R and DVD-RW, which means a lot less time spent waiting for video and other data to be recorded,' said Andy Parsons, senior vice president of industrial video & mass storage sales and marketing, Pioneer Electronics, Business Solutions Division. Using data writing software bundled with the drive, the DVR-A05 also offers two-minute quick formatting for DVD-RW data discs and allows finished DVD-RW discs to be 'unfinalized' for writing additional data files, Parsons said.

A DVD authoring tool and DVD/CD data recording application are also included with the drive, as well as blank 4X DVD-R and 2X DVD-RW discs. The drive features a new high-speed writing pickup, implemented by new laser driver technology that ensures stable writing performance at high speeds, Parsons said. A new liquid crystal tilt mechanism has also been included to improve operation with discs that have uneven curvature or thickness. The DVR-A05 also doubles the CD-R and CD-RW write speed of earlier models at 16X and 8X, respectively and can be used as a DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drive as well, according to Pioneer.
